National Guardsmen ‘banished’ to DC parking garage, forced to leave Capitol

Thousands of National Guardsmen were “banished” to a cramped parking garage after being abruptly forced to leave parts of the US Capitol grounds Thursday, according to reports.

Officers were told they could no longer access areas of the US Capitol Complex — including a Senate office cafeteria previously used as a rest area — after tirelessly protecting the nation’s capital in the days leading up to the presidential inauguration, according to Politico.

“We honestly just feel betrayed,” one Guardsman told the outlet. “After everything went seamlessly, we were deemed useless and banished to a corner of a parking garage.”

National Guard members allowed back into Capitol

After spending days in the cold securing the United States Capitol following the deadly siege two weeks ago, citizen members of the National Guard were asked to leave the Capitol building and relocate to a nearby parking garage to rest during their shifts. The decision drew swift condemnation from lawmakers, including Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, who called the move “outrageous.”

Several pressed to have it reversed. And it was, late Thursday night.

The Guard issued a statement saying, “Brig. Gen. Janeen Birckhead, Inauguration Task Force Commander confirms that troops are out of the garage and back into the Capitol building as authorized by the USCP (U.S. Capitol Police) Watch Commander and the troops will take their breaks near Emancipation Hall going forward.”

Georgia Rep. Marjorie Greene Files Articles Of Impeachment Against Biden

Republican Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene filed Articles of Impeachment against President Joe Biden just two days into his presidency.

“I just filed Articles of Impeachment on President Joe Biden,” Greene announced Thursday. “We’ll see how this goes.”

Greene said Biden’s alleged involvement with Ukraine while serving as vice president constituted enough grounds to levy the charges.

“President Joe Biden is unfit to hold the office of the Presidency. His pattern of abuse of power as President Obama’s Vice President is lengthy and disturbing,” Greene said in a statement. “President Biden has demonstrated that he will do whatever it takes to bail out his son, Hunter, and line his family’s pockets with cash from corrupt foreign energy companies.”

“President Biden is even on tape admitting to a quid pro quo with the Ukrainian government threatening to withhold $1,000,000,000 in foreign aid if they did not do his bidding. President Biden residing in the White House is a threat to national security and he must be immediately impeached.”

Florida Rep. Proposes Renaming Major Florida Highway ‘President Donald J. Trump Highway’

Rep. Anthony Sabatini (R-Fla.) is planning to propose legislation that would name the U.S. 27 Route in Florida as the “President Donald J. Trump Highway,” in honor of the 45th president of the United States.

“This legislative session I will be sponsoring an amendment to rename U.S. Highway 27 as the ‘President Donald J. Trump Highway,’ This great highway runs through the heartland of Florida in the State that President Trump calls home,” the representative wrote on his Facebook page.

Rep. Sabatini told the Orlando Sentinel that he chose Route 27 because it passes through Lake County, his home district.

“It’s one of the most historic highways and one of the longest highways which goes through pretty much the whole state,” Sabatini said. “I just think it’s a pretty good choice.”

The 481-mile highway connects the state’s capital Tallahassee to Miami.

“Looking forward to working on this important designation honoring one of the greatest Presidents in American History,” Sabatini wrote on a Twitter post on Tuesday.

McConnell Will Propose Trump Impeachment Trial to Start in February

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is expected to propose that Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) begin the impeachment trial of President Donald Trump in February, according to a report.

CBS News reports:

This would give impeachment managers and Mr. Trump’s defense at least a week to prepare. McConnell floated the proposal to GOP senators on a caucus conference call Thursday. It’s not yet clear what date in February McConnell is proposing. He had already said he would not take up a trial immediately after the House impeached Mr. Trump, and Democrats now control the Senate. […] The House has yet to send the single article of impeachment for incitement of insurrection to the Senate.

A China-based firm scored a $1B N95 mask contract with California

California Gov. Gavin Newsom held back details from the public and lawmakers about a $990 million state N95 mask contract with a China-based firm scrutinized by Congress.

But now, a trove of 848 pages of documents is available to the public, obtained by government watchdog group Judicial Watch. The documents provide details on how the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services selected BYD to make 300 million face masks for protection against COVID-19, a virus that originated in Wuhan.

Earlier this year, state legislators tried to press Newsom to provide details about the deal, as one senior Democratic lawmakers called the deal “murky.”

The documents—mostly emails—show the role of lobbyists in arranging the deal and that California deviated from normal procedures in awarding the contract.

“It would surprise Americans to see how a major Chinese company can so easily access government officials,” Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton told Fox News. “I would think the California legislature would be interested in how this happened.”
